Very nice oliver

Very nice animation style
You kept it simple and effective
The music was pretty upbeat and emotional, it fit the narrative well
Also, congrats on the 101st flash

thanks bbz

this also got daily 9th omg that's cool

oh wow

Looked like a bit of return to your original flash style in the middle there, with the colon three faces and voice acting and shit, and I thought it was interesting how you included your newer style alongside it. The music were gud choices as well with the aphex twin and snayk and stuff. I think you need more colour though, your flashes are grey a lot of the time.

Mechabloby responds:

i don't like using colours.

A nice little animation

This was a pretty cool animation. Usually beginner-submitted flashes on this site are of a very poor, scratchy quality, but this was different. I enjoyed the way the lines seemed very carefully drawn and frame-by-frame animated - it reminds me of the way I made flash when I was a beginner.

Some ideas for improvement for you - add colour and music. This generally makes flashes much, much more appealing and interesting to watch. Even if it's this sort of random animation, it really helps. There was a lot of empty space around the edges as well; try to keep your flash at the size of it's content.

Another idea is to up the frame rate, which is located in the Properties window in flash (it will be set to 12 FPS by default). This will make all animation run much more smoothly, though the flash will be quicker so you might have to do more - it will be worth it though.

Good job, I hope my tips help you.

Abstract

The thing that struck me most was the colour change at the end - after the dark greys and black and white used throughout, this felt surprisingly refreshing and quite uplifting. I found the rest of the flash to be meaningful and pretty figurative with having read your description afterwards, though I think you need to be more literal - the storyline was quite an abstract one, and some dialogue between characters could make the whole thing flow together a bit better. Not that the storyline was at all bad - just hard to interpret on seeing the flash alone.

I found the MSP song a bit too upbeat for the black and white part of the flash; maybe some more atmospheric and ambient music such as Aphex Twin or Brian Eno (or, you could try The Cure or Joy Division if you want a real band as opposed to electronic music) could have been more appropriate here; though I though the song fitted quite well with the colourful ending. The animation was great, in your typical wobbly style.

9/10 - needs a more coherent plot, I think, but your current direction is great in terms of style and animation.

Mechabloby responds:

Thanks, glad you liked it and thanks for some of the advice, too. But MSP > everything else fuck you

well gud :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

it is a house

Oh wow, wasn't this a spectacle. Worth the wait.

I reaaaally liked the sketchy style this has, and the changing colours helped a lot to that effect. The music was the choice to make for this flash (even if it weren't snayk), bizarre and brilliant, and fitted in with the animation and stuff well.

I think there needs to be a little more of a plot though (don't take me wrong, they are lovely experiments), your cartoons seem a little TOO abstract. Maybe introduce a few characters.

I decided to write this review hazier than my others, for a change.

Mechabloby responds:

Glad you liked it and I'll introduce characters when I think of something that could work as a trippy series. :]

Stylishly abstract

You pulled this off fantastically, the music syncs with the animation so well and I loved the basic green line art you used to great effect. The frame-by-frame explosions went well together with both these aspects, and I thought the 3-Dimensional shape animations were well-suited to this sort of thing. All the sorts of things which give this a computery theme - the green on black, the abstract shapes, the coding at the beginning (AS 3.0?) make this really stylish and brilliant.

Your choice of music is great as well; a really tranquil, ambient sound combined with the slowly-pounding drum beat makes for a well-suited background noise, and allows for lots of different elements in the flash to sync with.

My only qualm with this is that it could of been longer; I realise animating takes a long time though, and what is here is beautiful and serene.

Very well done, favourited and fived, lovely piece.

RedHotPoker responds:

Your so kind. :)

Ye I thought the green outline idea was nice, not at first for artistic reasons but mainly because i had to draw practicaly nothing. WOO ME!

Arcade Fire are magnificent. I recomend them to everyone who likes GOOD music. You are obviously one of those people. Win for you :D.

I like my shit being short. Means i dont get board of makeing it. Newgrounds doesn't agree however. I was expecting a bit more than 3.20. Ow well. It is only the internet.

Thank you so much.

:]

Really brilliant

I loved a lot of the effects you used in this movie. The filters worked so well - all the blurs and glows combined with some great animation were a strong point of this. My favourite bit was where the car crashed down onto the man - the slow-motion and then the drop was pulled off really well, and you really got a feel of the weight of the car.

The music was a good choice, though maybe you could of changed the song and varied it up a bit, it felt a bit repetitive being on throughout the whole animation. I also thought you could of included more sound effects - possibly voice acting? It would have made big improvements.

One aspect I had a qualm with was the people; your drawing style is a bit under-developed, I think you need to study the human figure more, particularly the head. They weren't terribly drawn or anything - just a bit simplistic. Your animation, however, quite makes up for this.

So 8/10, I hope I've given you a good few points to improve on, and well done on making a long, enjoyable piece!

What a brilliant parody!

Nevermind being brilliantly animated, this was hilarious stuff! Absolutely awesome. Nothing I can think of to improve whatsoever.

Fucking brilliant

Your animation style reminds me strongly of Terry Gilliam from Monty Python, absolutely brilliant. I loved the bizarre plot of this, as well as the ambient music and ridiculous voice acting. Great cartoon! 10/10.

W-P-S responds:

Thank you!

Lovely

I really like the ambient, depressing nature of this. Your use of only black, white and grey made this distinctive, and the music made this emotive. The lack of real action or dialogue didn't matter. A very well done, looking forward to more from the author.
